Sep 25, 2009 - Championship Wraps Up '09 Season
The planning, strategy, money and effort of a full season of race competition comes to fruition at the Tom Thumb Night of Champions. It is an accumulation of late nights in the shop getting race ready, rounding up sponsors, replacing parts, buying tires, and a lot more.
The drivers on the starting grid will recall the family and friends who pitched in to help with the car. Gee, did I return that part I borrowed in May? Who do I know that can handle a welder? What do you mean the frame is bent?
There were fenders that rubbed on the car, and some drivers who rubbed other drivers wrong, but that is all past history.
For many, a finish in the top 10 is a personal championship to savor. Next year a top 5, or maybe the jacket.
The veteran drivers by now know the capabilities of those new drivers, and they now call them by their first name.
But for the drivers running up front, this is for all the marbles. The last race of the year, and the 2009 championship. It has been a long and exciting journey for every one…drivers, crew, family in the stands, and new fans.
There are only 6 purple Hoosier Championship jackets to be awarded at the Snowball Derby. 2 were decided at the last race, and the remaining 4 will be earned on October 9th.
The Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsmen and Bombers. Let’s see, that means about 7 weeks to get ready for the Snowball Derby.
