When conversations begin about short track racers who deserve a shot at the next level, the name Daniel Hemric is one of the first names brought up in discussions.  Hemric of Kannapolis, North Carolina has sprinkled in three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts over the course of the past two seasons while competing in the Super Late Model ranks.  Despite his success, he’s yet to get the opportunity every race car driver dreams of competing regularly in one of NASCAR’s top-three series. The 23-year-old who has earned the nickname “Hotshoe” knows that a win in the 47th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida could be the addition to his resume that leads to that opportunity.  But that’s not the biggest reason why Hemric wants to be holding the Tom Dawson trophy on December 7. “A Derby win definitely wouldn’t hurt me I don’t think,” Hemric said with [...]

Texan Casey Smith Readies For 47th Annual Snowball Derby

Austin, TX 11/26/14 – It has been a frustrating year for Casey Smith and his Casey Smith Racing team, it’s not so much that they have not ran well, but the fact that a couple of mechanical failures and accidents have kept the 2013 Central Texas Speedway and San Antonio Speedway track champion out of victory lane and out of the Southern Super Series championship hunt. Even with missing most of the second half of the season, Smith finished 10th in the final point standings at the end of the year, with one common thread throughout the season, he’s ran very well at 5 Flags Speedway all season long, a fact that may come into play in the biggest short track race of the season, the 47th Annual Snowball Derby. “We’ve been one of the fastest cars all year long at Pensacola,” said Smith. “We just haven’t gotten to victory lane yet, but we [...]
