5th Annual Green Flag Party!

          The pit is packed with over a hundred Late Model cars and crews, just waiting for Thursday so they can get to work setting up for the 2 big ones.  The Super Late Models and Pro Late Models are ready to fire the motor and do some practice laps on Thursday.      It’s a tradition to invite the fans into the pits free, and spoon some chili from USA Digital (The small charge for the chili goes to charity), and sip some Miller suds.  It’s a cash bar. And live entertainment from Pensacola's own 'ULTRAVIOLET'!!!     GATES OPEN AT 5:00 PM!!!

Thursday Night Action!

{nl}      The green flag for the 42nd Annual Snowball Derby officially drops on Thursday when the West Florida Coatings Sportsmen Series and the Butler-U-Pull It Bomber Cars take to the track for their Main Events!     Come see the Kitchen Brothers, Jim Pokrant, Michael Nelson, and of course, 3 Time Sportsman Series Champion Randy Thompson THIS THURSDAY NIGHT! As they get things going for the 42nd Annual Snowball Derby!     Qualifying is at 6:15 with the Pre-Race Festivities to follow at 7:45. Then at 8:00, we'll drop the Green Flag for this years Derby. Saturday Night Race is a Highlight of the 42nd Annual Snowball Derby Weekend

{nl}      When most short race fans hear the words, “Snowball Derby” they don’t think of just the 300 laps run on a December Sunday in Florida.  Fans and racers alike think of the atmosphere at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway as a whole and all of the events during the entire week preceding the Derby.  One of those events is the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100, which over the past few years has become a staple of the Derby weekend and has, in years past, even drawn more cars than the Sunday race.Courtesy of Speed51.com

2009 DERBY OPEN TEST IN THE BOOKS

{nl}Not even a 100% rain forecast could stop the thunder of engines Saturday at 5 Flags Speedway, as Snowball Derby practice produced large car counts and near record lap times. Under threatening skies all day, Mother Nature smiled on the racers, and held off the rain until very late in the day, much to the delight of many drivers whom had traveled a long way in search of additional Snowball Derby speed.  Oklahoma veteran  Donnie Wilson, was one such driver. Wilson’s Ford was in top form as he toured the half mile right on, or near, Grant Enfinger’s track record of 16.62 seconds.

Flashback: 1999 Snowball Derby

{nl}      The richest payday in Snowball Derby history was on the line for three drivers in 1999. Rich Bickle, Gary St. Amant and Bobby Gill won races at Five Flags earlier in the season to qualify for a $100,000 bonus should one of them win the Snowball Derby.      St. Amant was eliminated early in the race in a crash. Gill appeared to win the bonus, crossing the finish line just ahead of Bickle, who bumped Gill into the wall in Turn 2 after the race ended.
