The open wheeled Modifieds of Mayhem make their first appearance here since the Snowball. That last event was won by Augie Grill of Hayden Alabama. The Pensacola stop on the tour usually attracts several Texas drivers.
Santos Makes Good on Promise, Captures King of the Wing Feature in Dominant Fashion By Chuck Corder It wasn’t like Bobby Santos III played his cards close to his fire suit. Earlier this week, the King of the Wing Series driver had let everybody know that he was coming to Five Flags Speedway to snatch some hardware. Setting a track record would be a nice palate cleanser, but the sizzle wasn’t as important to him as the steak. After Four-Year Absence, Santos and King of the Wing Series Returns to Five Flags Speedway By Chuck Corder There’s always a buzz around Five Flags Speedway. But, this Friday night that buzz will sound like a full-on swarm of bumblebees as the King of the Wing Series make their triumphant return since Mother Nature drowned their 2016 trip to the Gulf Coast. There are only a few nights of the Five Flags season that are more highly anticipated than when the winged sprint cars descend on Pensacola’s high banks. Stevie Mercer returns to victory lane at 5 Flags. The former Sportsmen driver bested the 38 car field in the 90 minute enduro race for 4 cylinder front wheel drive cars in the Sunday afternoon event. Brandon Vaughn finished 2nd, Jackson Lynchard was 3rd.

The 15-year-old driver’s dream of becoming a star in NASCAR or INDYCAR seemed over. The result of some good-natured teenage antics at his family’s vacation home in upstate New York, Giovanni sustained horrific injuries after he was flung off his dirt bike and remained unconscious for more than two hours. When he finally regained consciousness, the Long Island, NY, native had no memory of losing control of the dirt bike he was trying to do tricks on. Yea, it’s still cold in Wisconsin, so Dennis Prunty decided to come south for the weekend…to race here at 5 Flags in the SERF 100 Blizzard race. Prunty, from Knowles Wisconsin, a hero at Slinger Speedway, is being his Anderson Maple Syrup # 42 to Pensacola for some sweet redemption. In last December’s Snowball, he had to pull in the pits during the warm-up with a brake issue, and consequently started the race 4 laps down. He finished the Snowball in 23rd. place. He won 55 super late model races during his career.

Coming off an emotional victory at Myrtle Beach Speedway in the 4th Annual Icebreaker, Ty Gibbs has filed an entry for the March 9th ARCA Pensacola 200. At 16 years old Ty Gibbs, Joe's Grandson and Coy's son is the youngest member of the Joe Gibbs racing family. Gibbs has a full slate of racing in 2019 that includes splitting time with Riley Herbst in the ARCA Menards Series. Gibbs will run the short tracks while Herbst will run the mile and half or better tracks the 16 year old is unable to run on. The youngest Gibbs driver has already experienced enough highs and lows in 2019 to fill a season and more.
