The last two spots in tonight’s Snowflake 100 (7 p.m.) were hot commodities at Five Flags Speedway.

Three cautions in four of the 25-lap race took out five of the nine-car field, including a nasty crash that saw one Pro Late Model take flight.

John Bolen, who caused the last of the wrecks, and Erik Jones grabbed the transfer positions that were up for grabs. Not that many fans were taking about the results.

The stands were all abuzz about the drama.

Much of the field was nose to tail as they came to the start-finish line at the end of Lap 1 when the first fracas unfolded.

Ferguson in the No. 07 car got loose along the front straightaway and collided with Tyler Miles. Miles’ No. 40 went airborne and rolled over both Ferguson and Dakota Stroup before the trio came to a screeching halt along next to the inside wall

“Blake got loose and Stroup went underneath me,� said Miles, who was unharmed as were the other two involved in the crash. “This is a big race, and that’s what can happen.�

The race went green again, but not for long as Elliott Massey bumped Eddie Craig into the Turn 1 wall on Lap 3. Craig walked away fine.

It took one lap before the yellow came out for a final time, this one with Bolen playing the villain. In second � and in position to move on to the Snowflake � the Jasper, Ala., native had ideas on a win.

Bolen pushed leader Jake Kruger up the racetrack and the No. 14 violently smashed into the wall between Turns 3 and 4.

Kruger jumped out OK physically. His temper was another story, as he had to be restrained by track officials and flung his helmet at his own car in frustration.

The remaining 21 laps were quite ho-hum comparatively speaking.

Not that they needed more evidence, but Chase Elliott gave Five Flags Speedway fans more reasons to marvel.

Disqualified after qualifying because the nose of his No. 9 was deemed too low, the 15 year old felt like he had something to prove when he started from the back of the field.

Mission accomplished. Elliott won the race with Daniel Hemric taking the other spot.

“It was unfortunate we had to run the race in the first place,� Elliott said, “but it is what it is and will just go as hard as you can go. We’ll do our best and go from there.�
