Editor’s Note: Sportsman Season Preview

Steve Buttrick left big shoes to fill in the West Florida Coatings Sportsman Division.

He found his way to Victory Lane a jaw-dropping 11 times on his way to a track championship. Buttrick added an exclamation point to his remarkable season with the series’ Snowball Derby title in December.

The track crown seemingly will be up for grabs this season as Buttrick has committed to a double-duty schedule with the addition of a Modified ride. Close friend Mike Goraum, the defending Bombers champ, will guide Buttrick’s Sportsman car on the six nights of the year when Sportsmen and Modifieds race.

This season’s class of the West Florida Coatings Sportsmen drivers is, arguably, the division’s strongest field ever to grace the half-mile asphalt oval. It promises to make for a thrilling battle all-season long.

The West Florida Coatings Sportsmen begin their 14-race slate Friday night and will also get to enjoy a special 50-lap event Aug. 26.
