Fast Drivers & Good-Looking Cars to be Rewarded During Snowball Derby Week

WXBM, Hamner Engines & Capitol Renegade Presenting Qualifying & Best Appearing Bonuses

51 Sports / Snowball Derby PR
Nothing in short track racing compares to the sights and speeds of Snowball Derby weekend at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway. To help celebrate and honor the drivers that speed around the Five Flags half-mile with sharp-looking racecars, WXBM 102.7FM in Pensacola, Hamner Racing Engines of Harpersville, Alabama and Capitol Renegade of Greenbelt, Maryland are providing several awards during Snowball Derby week.
Qualifying for the 45th Annual Snowball Derby on Friday, November 30 will feature a $1000 cash prize for the driver who sets fast time on Snowball Derby Pole Night from WXBM. In addition, Jeff Hamner of Hamner Racing Engines has added an additional $750, making a $1,750 payout for the Snowball Derby pole-sitter.

The top 30 drivers will lock themselves into the Snowball Derby field in qualifying. Qualifying spots 31 on back will have to rely on transferring from the 50-lap Snowball Derby “Last Chance Race on Saturday, December 1. The driver that qualifies 31st, therefore starting on the pole for the last-chance event, will receive a $250 bonus from Hamner Racing Engines.

“WXBM Pole Night is one of the most intense couple of hours in short track racing, said Tim Bryant, General Manager of Five Flags Speedway. “More than 70 cars are pre-registered for the 300-lap feature and only 37 of them will make the show, so qualifying for the Snowball Derby keeps everyone on the edge of their seats. We’re proud to have WXBM and Hamner Racing Engines take part in such a special night for all the competitors vying for a coveted Snowball Derby starting spot.

To honor the drivers and teams that spend countless hours making their Super and Pro Late Models look as sleek as can be for the Snowball Derby weekend, Capitol Renegade will present $500 to the driver that the fans of Speed51.com, the Official News Site of the Snowball Derby, vote as the “Best Appearing Car of the Snowball Derby.

“Part of the fun of Snowball Derby weekend is seeing all the new paint schemes, wraps and designs that teams put on their cars just for this one race, said Bob Dillner, Speed51.com owner and SPEED broadcaster. “We’ve been proud to present the ‘Best Appearing Car’ award for several years now and it’s great to have Capital Renegade come on board with Five Flags and 51 to present this cash award. Fans look forward to the ‘Best Apparing Car’ voting every year during our Snowball Derby coverage on Speed51.com and I know that the fans will have some cool-looking cars to vote from this year.

In addition to the $500 cash prize for the “Best Appearing Car, 51 Sports, the parent company of Speed51.com, will offer a one-page website design for the winning driver.

The 45th Annual Snowball Derby kicks off on Wednesday, November 28th with the Green Flag Party. As the teams unload and begin the tech process, fans from 5pm to 9pm CT can meet the drivers and see the cars that will compete during Snowball Derby weekend. The first on-track activity comes on Thursday, as practice for the Super and Pro Late Models commences. Later that evening, qualifying and feature action for the Five Flags Speedway Bomber and Sportsmen divisions will take place.

On Friday, November 30th, it’s WXBM Pole Night, as the top 30 in Snowball Derby qualifying will be locked into Sunday’s 300-lap feature. More practice for the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 cars will take place, as well as a full card of Super Stock and Modified action.

Then on Saturday, December 1st, it’s the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 time trials, last-chance qualifying race and the 100-lap feature, plus final practice for the Snowball Derby cars and a 50-lap last-chance qualifying race for the Snowball Derby.

Finally, the 45th Annual Snowball Derby will then go green on Sunday, December 2nd at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.
