Five Flags Speedway

Dossey Snowflake Hope based on Snowball run.

By Speed51.com

With the postponement of the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 at Five Flags Speedway from last Saturday to this coming Sunday, there were some long-haul Pro Late Model teams unsure of whether or not they could return to the Florida Panhandle so soon. For Indianapolis driver Jack Dossey III, there was no doubt in his mind that he and the No. 20 team would be back to finish their Snowball Derby debut in full.

After lasting the whole length of the 51st Snowball Derby last Sunday evening, Dossey is still charged up on being able to go the distance in one of the toughest Super Late Model races in the land.

“We had a lot of fun last Sunday at the Snowball Derby. It met all of our expectations. It’s a very prestigious race. Honestly, it was probably the coolest thing I’ve ever witnessed and been a part of, Dossey told Speed51.com.

It should come as no surprise that Dossey has a higher level of encouragement about the Snowflake 100, given that he won the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship for two straight seasons now. Coupled with his Snowball Derby performance, he feels like he’s in a good spot heading into Sunday.

“The Snowflake is the race I feel more confident about. It’s a little more in my wheelhouse with all the Pro Late Model experience I have already. I feel pretty good with the decent finish we had at the Derby. It adds a little bit of confidence going in to this weekend.

While competing with an entirely different car, Dossey was able to use the Snowball Derby as a real-world practice session knowing his chances of doing well in the Snowflake.

“The Super Late Model wasn’t as great as I would’ve hoped, so we decided to look at it as 300 laps of practice for the Snowflake 100. The car needed some work, so we stuck to our guns, got it a little better, and it ended up being a good day for me and my team. A top-20 finish in our first Snowball Derby is pretty respectable, and to have 300 laps of racing experience is pretty valuable for this weekend.

As for his Pro Late Model, he feels it is a contender from last week’s practice sessions. The biggest challenge that’s left is adjusting to the many changes in track conditions over the past week with just limited practice time.

“The Pro Late Model was pretty good. We just spent most of our time worrying about the Super. I felt very confident about the Pro versus the Super. The Pro reacts to everything we do, it’s got a little more short run speed, which will be good for the Snowflake. We’ll see this weekend how much the track has changed, and then go from there. We’ve got 30 minutes of practice, but I think it will be alright.

Perhaps the biggest challenge will be the reduced crew Dossey will have returning with him to Pensacola.

“Some of my team can’t make the trip because of their jobs and commitments, but I think that the people we have going, plus there being just the one car, we can pull off a good race, and cap off our first Snowball Derby.

When it comes to Dossey’s chances on Sunday, he is not one to over-hype his chances, but at the same time, he knows that with a good qualifying run, he can be a contender for the Snowflake 100 trophy.

“I think we can be a top contender. I don’t want to oversell myself. We’ve got the best in the business that’s going to be there for the race on Sunday. I like to think that I can run pretty well, but anything can happen. If we can get a top 10 finish, that’d be a pretty good day for us.

Race fans can watch Jack Dossey III race in the Snowflake 100 live on Speed51.com’s pay-per-view coverage on Sunday, December 9th. Click here to order
