Night of Champions No. 1 Sees Historic Wins as 4 Classes Conclude Regular Season

If you like winners, you’ve come to the right place.
Five Flags Speedway crowned its first four track champions of 2025 on Saturday night during the Harvesters Credit Union Night of Champions. The drivers who captured their divisions won a total of 16 features in 22 races. That’s a victory percentage of 72%.
One driver swept his season. Steven Davis was a perfect five-for-five en route to the Gulf Real Estate Group Pro Trucks title. The Theodore, Ala., driver finished off his unblemished championship run in the 30-lap feature Saturday by taking the lead on Lap 6 and holding off Maddox Langham and youngster Matthew Laprade—who finished second and third, respectively.
“We’ve had a really good year,” said Davis, who also won a championship at Mobile International Speedway thanks to six wins. “I’m grateful to be driving. This is a family deal. It takes a lotta time—away from my kids and family, and you end up missing stuff.”
For all his victories at Five Flags—this was his 11th since 2018—this is Davis’ first career track title in Pensacola to go with his two Pro Trucks Snowball Derby wins (2015, 2023).
He set the fast time Saturday (18.293 seconds) but started fourth after the die-roll invert. Davis was third immediately and chased down the 13-year-old Laprade, leading at the time, six laps in.
Langham grinded from his sixth starting spot to collect runner-up honors.
“I don’t think I’ve ever run this truck this hard,” Langham said. “Congratulations and thanks to Steven Davis. He’s been helping us all year long. I think we’re finally hitting a turning point.”
Faith Chapel Outlaws
always feels good to come home.
Timothy Watson spent last year away from running Outlaws full time while focusing on his Late Model program. The Panama City driver made a triumphant return to the Faith Chapel Outlaws in 2025 at Five Flags Speedway, winning twice and sealing his third Outlaws track championship in four years on Saturday at the Harvesters Credit Union Night of Champions.
“It feels great to say I’m a three-time champ at Five Flags,” Watson said of his back-to-back Outlaws titles (2022-23). “I always enjoy racing with these guys. I’m glad be able to get back here.”
But at the Harvesters Credit Union Night of Champions on Saturday, Watson finished runner-up to Cantonment driver Bubba Winslow in the 35-lap feature. With his second win, Winslow matched Watson’s season total. Alabama driver Jeremy Williams finished third.
“We really enjoy racing in front of these fans,” Winslow said. “My crew deserves me to give my best every time.”
Watson set the fast time in qualifying (17.320 seconds) but started second because of the die-roll invert. It put Williams on the pole, and the Dora, Ala., wheelman was game for most of the 40-lapper.
Winslow finally got by Williams for the lead on Lap 35 and was able to distance himself from Watson.
“This was pretty good considering this is a new car,” Williams said. “We’re working hard on it. We just need to make it race a little better.”
The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen
The last two times Chad Robinson came across the Bay to Five Flags Speedway, the perennial winner had to settle for second in the Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen features.
Most drivers would pour blood, sweat and tears out for back-to-back runners-up. But Robinson is always hunting wins.
He got a pair of victories Saturday at Five Flags, winning the 30-lap Sportsmen feature and solidifying his second career track championship. Robinson won the Sportsmen crown in 2020.
“I ain’t ever drove so hard in my life,” said Robinson, who got his fourth win this season at the famed half-mile asphalt oval. “I knew I needed to stay out front of Charles. We were on it the whole night.”
Charles Davis, the driver who vanquished Robinson the last two races, finished second and Daryl McDonald III came home third.
Robinson had the lead by Lap 3 and maintained it the rest of the way despite Davis’ and other drivers’ best efforts.
Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks
Mason Johnston didn’t need a season-finale win to secure his first track championship.
Johnston was right in the mix of that elusive title going into the Harvesters Credit Union Night of Champions the last two years. Each time, though, he fell short.
As his grandfather Okie Mason told him not long ago: Just win races. Championships will come. Because Johnston won so much in 2025, he did not need to win Saturday’s 25-lap feature to claim the Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks championship.
That honor went to teammate Dylan Courtney, who was a late addition when car owner Daniel Lofton asked Courtney to drive. Robert Barner recorded a second and Connor Odom rounded out the podium, respectively.
Johnston finished fourth, but that was plenty good to win his first Pure Stocks crown and add to his growing list of career feats to put next to his grandfather’s. The pair also each have a Snowball Derby title—Johnston’s came last year.
“Winning this thing means the world,” he said. “I worked really hard on this car this year.
I owe everything to my Paw Paw—my car owner and crew chief. I’m thankful for everything and glad I get to follow in his footsteps.”
Courtney, who works on cars alongside Johnston, did something that hadn’t been achieved in more than a year and only achieved by one other driver. He beat Johnston.
Johnston was not only perfect this season going into Saturday, but he had a six-race streak going dating back to 2024 and including the Derby win. The only driver to beat Johnston in the last two years, before Saturday, was Maddox Langham.
