Chris Salter Captures Crown Stocks Derby 40; Honeycutt Collects $900 on Derby Preview

Fantasies don’t always turn into reality at the Snowball Derby.
Don’t tell that to the Salter Brothers, Adam and Chris, though. The pair from Andalusia, Alabama, aren’t ready to wake up.
They’ve enjoyed dream seasons at Five Flags Speedway and short tracks across the southeast behind the wheels of Crown Victorias. Together, the pair racked up 22 total victories.

On Saturday during the Snowball Derby Preview at Five Flags, the brothers added to their fantastical years by finishing first and second in the Crown Stocks Derby 40. Chris Salter became the first champion for the 58th Snowball Derby presented by FloSports, which kicks off Dec. 2 and culminates Dec. 7 with the 300-lap Derby for Super Late Models.
“I’m worn slap out,” Chris Salter, 35, said after his 12th victory in 2025. “There’s always tough competition down here. We go all over the country, but this whole group is the best.
“It’s gonna be hard to top this one. I may not try. This may be my last one.”
Adam Salter, who won the Story and Bleich Roofing Crown Stocks track championship at Five Flags this season, came over from his runner-up spot on the podium and shared a meaningful embrace with his victorious brother in Victory Lane.
“He won the race, but as a team we get to take home the trophy,” said 29-year-old Adam Salter, who with Chris and several other Alabama drivers make up Bare Minimum Racing. “It’s hard racing against him because we’re brothers. Sometimes, it works out better for me. But tonight, he was definitely better than I was.””
The Crown Stocks Derby 40 had a full field of 30 cars and a “B” feature that had nearly 20 more drivers fighting for five transfer spots to the 40-lapper. There were multiple cautions early in the “A”—five before the midway point—as everyone fought for prime real estate around the famed half-mile asphalt oval.

Chris Salter took the lead on Lap 14 when then-leader Zachary Curtis started experiencing mechanical issues that brought out the fourth yellow. Curtis was a force early on before his issues. He set a new Crown Stocks track record (21.293 seconds) during qualifying.
Enterprise, Alabama, driver Austin Reeves rounded out the podium and tied his best-career finish at Five Flags.
“I was waiting for them two to get squirrely and take each other out,” Reeves joked about the Salter Brothers. “I’m just happy we came home in one piece.”

Money Runs
Defending Snowball Derby champion Kaden Honeycutt kicked off his quest for back-to-back Tom Dawson trophies with a familiar script during the money runs of the Snowball Derby Preview.
Last November, Honeycutt posted fast times for the three divisions—Super Late Models, Pro Late Models and Pro Trucks, collecting a cool $1,050 for his efforts. He would go on to win not only the Derby but the Pro Trucks Snowball Derby, too.
This Saturday, Honeycutt posted fast times for three divisions—Supers, Modifieds and Pro Trucks—and once again stuffed his wallet with cash. Competing against NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch and other elite Late Model drivers, Honeycutt’s time of 16.560 seconds earned him $500. The Texan snagged an additional $400 after being the fastest for Modifieds (17.558 seconds) and Pro Trucks (18.632 seconds).
T.J. DeCaire headed home to Land O’ Lakes $300 richer thanks to his fast Pro lap (16.824 seconds).

Timothy Watson, who won his third Faith Chapel Outlaws track championship this season at Five Flags, cashed $200 for his fast time (17.385 seconds).
Sportsmen track champion Chad Robinson collected $200, as well, for topping his rivals with a time of 19.552 seconds. Multi-time Pure Stocks Derby champion Robert Loper also netted $200 for his lightning-fast lap of 21.363 seconds during the Pure Stocks money run.
